Creature Feature: a transmasque

"But what am I becoming?"
"In the end, whatever you decide. But I think it will be magnificent."

Creature Feature is a deconstruction of John Milton’s court masque “A Masque Performed at Ludlow Castle,” (commonly known as “Comus”).
The Shepherds of the Citadel warn their charges never to venture into the nearby woods. They tell the story of a sorcerer who dwells there, corrupting travelers into monsters. But for an acolyte hiding his own transformation, braving those woods could be his path to answers. He discovers a realm of wild magic and revelry, but when his faithful friends pursue him into apparent danger, he must confront his fear that he will bring disaster to all he loves.

Destination Unknown

Alex, a reserved college student and aspiring radio DJ, discovers an elevator that travels to different realities. Through encounters with mysterious agents, a flirtatious robot, rude poets, and his own alternate self, Alex is forced to confront both his fears and desires as his world falls apart around him.

"Everything here is confusing!
But when you have no idea what might happen next, that's when things start getting exciting.
It makes me want to find out.
Don't you?"

Artist Statement

Alex Lamoreux, Finn Hogan, and Sage Gillespie as the Monster Ensemble of Creature Feature

I'm a theatermaker with a love for all parts of new play development, whether I'm sharing my own work or helping to realize someone else's vision as a director. I gravitate towards plays featuring magic, queer themes, and chances to depict the impossible onstage.
I'm also excited about experimental theater: devising, exploring the intersections of theater and games, working site-specifically, or even all of the above. I enjoy any opportunity to respond to the architecture of a non-(traditionally) theatrical space, or to make someone's day a little weirder.
In addition to playwriting and directing, I work as a stagehand, have explored sound and costumes, acted in LARP events, and operated a robot. My hobbies include illustration, video editing, and hypertext fiction.
